Ready to take ownership of complex schemes and influence better design outcomes?
At SCP Infrastructure & Design, an RSK Group company, we are looking for an experienced Senior Engineer to play a key role in delivering high-quality highways and drainage solutions across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an established engineer who is ready to step up — leading technical delivery, mentoring others, and acting as a trusted point of expertise within a collaborative, forward-thinking team.
Why This Role?
As a Senior Engineer, you’ll move beyond task delivery and into true project influence. You’ll help shape designs, guide junior engineers, and work closely with project managers and clients to deliver technically robust, sustainable solutions.
You’ll be empowered to challenge convention, drive continuous improvement, and contribute meaningfully to the success of nationally significant projects across residential, commercial, healthcare, education, and energy sectors.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Leading the technical delivery of highways and drainage designs on medium to large projects
- Producing and checking drawings, calculations, and specifications to a high standard
- Providing day-to-day technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and technicians
- Coordinating design inputs and managing workloads to meet programme deadlines
- Reviewing outputs to ensure compliance with standards, legislation, and best practice
- Supporting client engagement and contributing to design discussions and solutions
- Keeping abreast of regulatory changes and championing quality across the team
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong experience in highways and drainage design (roads, foul & surface water)
- Proven background across multiple sectors (residential, commercial, industrial, etc.)
- Experience producing technical reports such as Drainage Strategies, FRAs and O&M Manuals
- Confident communicator with the ability to guide and influence others
- Strong design software and Microsoft Office capability
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach to engineering challenges
- Full UK driving licence

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
