Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Role Type: Onsite, Permanent (Full-time, 5 days a week) Location: Gloucester, South Gloucestershire, United Kingdom Closing Date: 24 June 2026

Role Overview

Senior Infrastructure Engineer – Gloucester (Onsite, Permanent, Full-time)

You will play a key role in maintaining and delivering operational systems across multiple business areas, adhering to Agile/DevOps methodologies and working closely within our secure defence and cybersecurity ecosystem.


Key Responsibilities

  • Systems Administration & Maintenance:

    • Perform system administration and backup tasks
    • Troubleshoot and resolve application, network, and service-related issues
  • Infrastructure & Design:

    • Research and resolve system design challenges
    • Interpret requirements into design specifications and implementation
  • Hardware & Software Support:

    • Manage Linux (RHEL/CentOS), Windows Server Active Directory, OU, user, and group management
    • Support VMware vSphere (ESXi), server/hardware deployments, and desktop environments

  • Agile Delivery:

    • Operate within SCRUM/DevOps workflows, coordinating with product owners and stakeholder teams
    • Deliver, install, maintain, and optimise scalable enterprise systems
  • Cloud & Modernisation:

    • Support RedHat migrations, cloud services (AWS/Azure)
    • Integrate Docker, Kubernetes, Helm charts, and container orchestration where relevant
  • Advanced Infrastructure:

    • Work with Elasticsearch/Kibana, Apache Kafka, MongoDB
    • Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) and automations
    • Assess Concourse pipelines, and general automation distributions

Key Experience & Qualifications

Core Requirements

✅ Essential:

  • Agile/SCRUM/DevOps experience, including Linux DC for systems engineering across full systems engineering life cycles (requirements → deployment → sign-off).
  • Expertise in Linux (RHEL/CentOS) system administration (server design, security, monitoring).
  • Understanding of design complexities in large-scale information systems management.
  • Broad experience with hardwarestacks: Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware (vSphere), and niche hardware/OS configurations.
  • Technical leadership—responsibility for project elements, working with project management.

✅ Desired but Not Compulsory:

  • Concourse (pipes, admin, logic compiler).
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) specialisations → Terraform, Ansible, Helm charts.
  • Infrastructure support languages → Python, Bash.
  • Complex systems engineering frameworks (MODAF, TOGAF).
  • Cloud-native stack (AWS/Azure resource wrappers, VPNs).

  • Customer obsession—balancing functional requirement adherence with system health/downtime prevention.
  • Thriving in defence and cyber workloads, with due regard for legacy evasion and compliance.
