Senior Infrastructure Engineer
VIQU is hiring for a large organisation for an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join their Enterprise Engineering team to support with day to day 3rd line infrastructure support.
Location: Sunderland
Duration: 6 month contract
Hybrid: 3 days per week onsite / 2 days remote
Rate: Up to £400 per day
Outside IR35.
Senior Infrastructure Engineer role:
The Senior Infrastructure engineer will become an integral part of the Enterprise Engineering team, providing 3rd Line infrastructure support alongside contributing to infrastructure projects, migrations and continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation.
This is a genuinely varied role, ideal for an engineer who enjoys working across infrastructure, networking, servers, virtualisation, Microsoft 365 and identity rather than focusing on one specific technology area.
You'll provide technical expertise across a broad enterprise environment, helping to maintain secure, reliable and resilient systems while supporting the delivery of key infrastructure initiatives.
Senior Infrastructure Engineer key responsibilities:
- Provide 3rd Line infrastructure and technical support across the business.
- Support infrastructure projects, migrations and technical improvement initiatives.
- Maintain and support Windows Server and Active Directory environments.
- Support Fortinet firewalls, networking and wireless infrastructure.
- Administer and support Microsoft 365 / Office 365 and Intune.
- Support Hyper-V and VMware virtualisation environments.
- Administer and support Okta and Entra ID identity platforms.
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and work closely with wider technology teams.
- Contribute to infrastructure security, patching, backup and disaster recovery.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior members of the team.

Senior Infrastructure Engineer essential Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in a hands-on 3rd Line Infrastructure or Infrastructure Engineering role.
- Strong Windows Server and Active Directory administration experience.
- Experience with Hyper-V and VMware environments.
- Networking experience, ideally with Fortinet / FortiGate and wireless technologies.
- Strong Microsoft 365 / Office 365 administration experience.
- Experience with Okta and/or Entra ID.
- Understanding of Identity & Access Management, SSO and authentication technologies.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure across on-premise and cloud environments.
- Good understanding of infrastructure security, patching and service continuity.

The Ideal Background:
We're keen to speak with engineers who have:
- A strong 3rd Line Infrastructure or Enterprise Engineering background.
- Experience working across multiple infrastructure disciplines.
- Previous experience within large-scale or enterprise environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with technologies such as Fortinet, Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory, Hyper-V, VMware, Okta and Entra ID.
- A proactive and collaborative approach with the ability to take ownership of complex technical issues.
- A genuine interest in technology and continuous improvement.
