Are you an experienced infrastructure specialist who enjoys leading technical change, taking ownership of projects and helping deliver services that support the NHS? If so, this could be the opportunity you're looking for.
NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) is expanding its Infrastructure team to increase capacity across Microsoft Azure, Identity Management and wider technical projects.
This is a growth role within an established team of around 15 infrastructure professionals, ranging from apprentice and junior engineers through to senior and lead engineers.
You'll play a key role in delivering infrastructure projects, acting as a technical SME (Subject Matter Expert) and providing third-line support when required.
We can offer great career progression opportunities, ability to be based anywhere across the UK, benefits which you can flex to meet your needs, and training and development opportunities.
This role is UK-based and primarily remote, with occasional travel to our Leeds or Southampton office when required. In normal circumstances, office attendance is expected to be no more than approximately once per quarter, although additional travel may be required for specific projects or business needs.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading and delivering infrastructure projects across Microsoft Azure, identity management and core infrastructure technologies.
- Acting as a subject matter expert, providing technical guidance, evaluation and implementation support for new and existing solutions.
- Supporting third-line incidents and contributing to major incident resolution when required.
- Taking ownership of technical changes, ensuring effective planning, delivery, documentation and knowledge transfer to operational support teams.
- Managing and supporting Windows Server, Microsoft Entra ID and Active Directory environments.
- Collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver successful business outcomes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
