Role: Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Database Development)
As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Database Development) at Companies House, you will support, maintain, and develop the organisation's current and future data services. Working primarily with Oracle and PL/SQL technologies, you will contribute to the delivery of both public-facing and internal services, while knowledge of PostgreSQL would be advantageous. You will be involved in database development, administration, and support across development, testing, and end-to-end environments.
The role offers the opportunity to play a key part in the ongoing transformation of Companies House services. Working within the Database Development team, you will develop and maintain data components, bulk data products, and Oracle PL/SQL packages that underpin customer-facing systems, including the Companies House Service (CHS). You will also support live production databases by investigating customer queries, producing data extracts and statistics, and creating data-fix scripts to implement bulk database updates.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
