Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This position will be based in the CGI Chippenham office 5 days a week.

Candidate Profile

In this role, you will design, build and manage secure, high-performing infrastructure environments that support critical defence and intelligence operations. You will take ownership of delivering robust platforms across virtualised, cloud and software-defined environments, contributing to solution design and influencing key technical decisions. Working closely with architecture, security and delivery teams, you will help shape resilient systems while continuously identifying opportunities to optimise, modernise and automate infrastructure services.

You will play a key role in ensuring systems are reliable, scalable and aligned with strict security requirements, while also supporting complex troubleshooting and ongoing improvements. Your contributions will directly impact programme success, enabling innovative solutions in highly secure environments while being supported by a collaborative and forward-thinking team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build & Configure: Develop enterprise infrastructure environments across virtualised and cloud platforms
  • Deploy & Optimise: Implement and enhance VMware, VxRail and NSX-based solutions
  • Operate & Maintain: Manage day-to-day infrastructure operations, ensuring performance and availability
  • Architect & Secure: Design network and cross-domain solutions aligned to security standards
  • Support & Resolve: Provide 2nd/3rd line support and resolve complex infrastructure issues
  • Collaborate & Deliver: Work with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, timely solutions
  • Automate & Improve: Identify optimisation opportunities and contribute to automation initiatives

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role

You will bring strong experience in enterprise infrastructure engineering within defence or secure environments, with a focus on virtualisation, cloud technologies and secure system design. A solid understanding of infrastructure lifecycle management, combined with hands-on technical expertise, will enable you to contribute effectively to complex, high-impact programmes.

  • Proven experience working in Defence or secure environments
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise infrastructure (compute, storage, networking)
  • Hands-on experience with VMware technologies (including Cloud Foundation, VxRail)
  • Experience designing or supporting cross-domain solutions
  • Understanding of infrastructure lifecycle management and best practices
  • Experience implementing and managing SSO solutions
  • Experience with Kubernetes platforms, ideally VKS
  • Familiarity with security standards, processes and policies in Defence (desirable)
  • Exposure to automation tools and Infrastructure as Code (desirable)
  • Knowledge of hybrid or multi-cloud environments (desirable)
  • Strong Linux and/or Windows Server administration skills (desirable)
