We are pleased to announce a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join our growing technology team! If you are passionate about designing secure, resilient infrastructure and enjoy solving complex technical challenges, this could be the ideal role for you.
As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will design, implement and support reliable on-premises and cloud infrastructure across the organisation. You will lead infrastructure projects, improve system performance and security, and provide technical guidance to colleagues. This role is suited to an experienced infrastructure professional with strong knowledge of cloud platforms, networking, systems administration, automation and operational best practice.
Key responsibilities - senior infrastructure engineer
- Design, build and maintain secure, scalable and highly available infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Administer and support servers, virtualisation platforms, networks, storage, identity services and endpoint technologies.
- Manage and improve cloud infrastructure across platforms such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Monitor infrastructure performance, availability, capacity and security, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure as code, configuration management and automation using appropriate tools and scripting languages.
- Lead infrastructure upgrades, migrations, system integrations and technology refresh projects from planning through to implementation.
- Support incident, problem and change management processes, providing timely resolution and clear technical documentation.
- Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, business continuity and high-availability solutions.
- Apply security controls, patching standards, access management and vulnerability remediation in line with organisational policies.
- Work closely with software development, service desk, information security and business teams to deliver effective technical solutions.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and knowledge sharing to infrastructure engineers and wider IT colleagues.
- Maintain accurate infrastructure diagrams, procedures, asset records and operational documentation.

Essential skills and experience - senior infrastructure engineering
- Substantial experience in a senior infrastructure engineer, systems engineer, cloud engineer or similar role.
- Strong experience supporting Microsoft Windows Server and/or Linux operating systems in enterprise environments.
- Practical experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably Microsoft Azure or AWS, including identity, networking, compute and storage services.
- Strong understanding of networking principles, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VPNs, routing and switching.
- Experience with virtualisation technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Knowledge of backup, disaster recovery, monitoring, high availability and business continuity solutions.
- Experience with automation, scripting or infrastructure as code using tools such as PowerShell, Python, Terraform, Ansible or equivalent.
- Good understanding of cyber security principles, vulnerability management, access controls and secure infrastructure design.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex technical issues.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently and contribute effectively within a collaborative team.
- Commitment to maintaining clear documentation and following structured IT service management processes.

Desirable qualifications - senior infrastructure engineer
- Degree, apprenticeship or professional qualification in computer science, information technology, engineering or a related discipline.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent cloud certification.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator or equivalent certification.
- ITIL certification or practical experience working within ITIL service management environments.
- Certifications in networking, cyber security, Linux, VMware or other relevant infrastructure technologies.
- Experience working with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Git and container technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
