Senior Infrastructure Engineer – Networking / Meraki
Contract: 6 months initial, likely extension
Location: London hybrid, typically around 2 days onsite per week with flexibility depending on project and operational needs
IR35: Outside IR35
Overview
Our client is looking for a hands-on Senior Infrastructure Engineer with particularly strong networking and Cisco Meraki expertise to support its UK infrastructure estate during a period of significant change.
The business is transitioning away from its current MSP and bringing more infrastructure capability in-house. This role will combine 3rd-line BAU support, break/fix troubleshooting, network ownership and project work, with a particular focus on strengthening networking capability across a multi-site environment.
The successful engineer should be comfortable working across a broad infrastructure stack, but the priority for this hire is deep practical networking knowledge and strong Meraki experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 3rd-line support across a multi-site infrastructure environment
- Take ownership of complex networking, connectivity and infrastructure incidents
- Support and troubleshoot Cisco Meraki switches, security appliances, wireless and VPN connectivity
- Diagnose issues across LAN, WAN, VLANs, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, firewalls and VPNs
- Review and improve existing network configuration, resilience and documentation
- Identify single points of failure and recommend practical improvements
- Support MSP exit activity, including knowledge transfer, configuration validation and handover
- Assist with monitoring, alerting, patching and operational tooling following the MSP transition
- Work across mixed modern and legacy infrastructure where documentation may be incomplete
- Support wider infrastructure work across Azure, Windows Server, VMware/Hyper-V and Microsoft 365 where required
- Produce clear technical documentation and maintain accurate network diagrams
- Work autonomously, investigate unfamiliar issues and drive problems through to resolution

Essential Experience
- Strong hands-on Cisco Meraki experience
- Solid networking background across switching, routing, VLANs, VPNs, DNS, DHCP and firewalls
- Experience troubleshooting complex network and connectivity issues end to end
- Experience supporting multi-site environments
- Strong 3rd-line infrastructure support background
- Experience with Cisco networking alongside Meraki
- Good understanding of Windows Server and Active Directory infrastructure
- Comfortable working in environments with legacy technology and incomplete documentation
- Experience supporting infrastructure transitions, MSP handovers or service-provider changes
- Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to work independently

Desirable Experience
- Azure networking, including VNets, NSGs, private endpoints and hybrid connectivity
- PowerShell automation
- VMware and Hyper-V
- Microsoft 365 / Exchange Online / Intune
- Monitoring and network management tooling
- Experience in 24/7, customer-facing or regulated environments
