Are you a Civil Infrastructure Engineer looking to grow your technical and operational expertise across the world?

Buro Happold is looking to recruit a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join our Infrastructure Group in our Bath office, with a particular focus on potable water design.

In this role you will bring strong water system design expertise to a team shaping both UK and international projects. You will play a central part in the design of potable water, wastewater, surface water and recycled water systems, contributing from early concept development through to detailed engineering. A major attraction of the role is the opportunity to work on internationally significant new city‑district masterplanning programmes, where entire water networks for new urban areas are being planned from the ground up. This is a rare chance to design large‑scale systems at district and city level, helping define the water strategy and technical approach for major new communities.

Alongside this international work, you will also lead and deliver UK water and infrastructure projects, providing a balanced workload that combines strategic masterplanning with practical implementation and detailed project delivery. This blend of responsibilities offers genuine variety, professional growth and exposure to complex, multidisciplinary challenges.

Key Duties

Water System Design and Delivery

  • Develop potable water, wastewater, surface water and recycled water network designs from concept to detailed design.
  • Produce technical strategies, calculations, reports and coordinated design outputs in line with UK and international standards.
  • Support digital delivery and application of modelling tools across network planning and optimisation.

International Masterplanning

  • Contribute to large‑scale new city and district masterplans, shaping water system concepts and strategies for major international developments.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to integrate water networks with energy, transport, landscape and urban design components.
  • Help define sustainable, resilient and efficient water infrastructure for new communities at regional scale.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
