Position Description
CGI is helping shape the future of secure defence technology by delivering innovative, mission-critical infrastructure solutions that support the UK's most important programmes. As an Infrastructure Engineer within our Space, Defence and Intelligence business, you will play a key role in deploying and supporting a new on-premises cloud platform for the MOD, helping to deliver resilient, secure and high-performing environments that enable operational success. Working alongside experienced technical specialists, you will take ownership of complex infrastructure challenges, contribute to meaningful outcomes, and develop your expertise on a strategically significant programme where your work makes a real difference.
CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK ‘Best Employer’ by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you’ll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We’ll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go.
Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This is a hybrid position with ad hoc travel to sites near Lincoln and Leatherhead.
Your future duties and responsibilities
You will join a small, highly skilled team of Infrastructure and DevOps Engineers responsible for maintaining a secure private cloud platform and its supporting infrastructure. As a senior member of the team, you will take ownership of technical delivery across project and operational activities, ensuring the platform remains secure, resilient and fit for mission-critical defence workloads. This role offers the opportunity to influence technical decisions, collaborate with architects and stakeholders, and contribute to the evolution of a strategically important capability.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
