Purpose of job
Lead and line-manage the Insight Team’s analytics work, delivering high-quality customer, business, place and predictive analysis for the company. Take responsibility for providing reliable insight that supports strategic and operational decisions. This includes producing and analysing intelligence reports and delivering business insight projects, as well as carrying out customer segmentation and proactively examining large datasets to identify actionable insights about the business and its current and future customers.
Bring a strong commitment to transforming data into information, information into insight, and insight into action so that evidence plays a central role in shaping business processes, services and strategies.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of high-quality business insight, including analysis for business projects and individual insight requests.
- Manage Analytics colleagues day to day, offering guidance, mentoring and support while setting priorities and overseeing the team’s workload.
- Turn complex data into useful insight aligned with the company’s objectives, helping to inform strategic decisions and positive change. Work with internal stakeholders to define and understand their insight needs.
- Lead the delivery of high-quality customer insight, particularly customer segmentation and in-depth investigation projects that improve services and support a customer-focused approach.
- Proactively examine customer data to identify trends, costs, satisfaction levels and behaviours within specific customer groups.
- Monitor external developments that could affect the company, identify opportunities for insight projects, and develop relevant, innovative methods to design and manage those projects.
- Ensure the team delivers accurate, timely and concise insight. Engage stakeholders throughout the company so that decisions are informed by evidence and analysis.
- Add value to the business through insight and predictive analytics, proactively identifying potential opportunities.
- Analyse data and deliver high-quality insight across all areas of the business using a range of insight methods, statistical tools and software.
- Lead the team in independently analysing issues, resolving them or making recommendations based on the analysis, providing end-to-end problem resolution.
- Produce insight reports and summary papers in different formats suited to their intended audiences.
- Collaborate effectively with the wider Insight Team to turn data into practical insight for the business.
- Anticipate the organisation’s insight needs and promote the value and benefits of insight throughout the business.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role.

Knowledge, skills and experience required

- Substantial experience in insight, data analytics, research, visualisation, business intelligence or analytical consulting.
- Experience managing people and/or projects to deliver high-quality insight.
- Proven experience in customer segmentation and analysis, with the ability to demonstrate how this work has influenced business decisions and services.
- Proven experience working with business customers to shape decisions through insight.
- Strong experience applying a range of quantitative and qualitative research methods and analytical techniques.
- Strong experience handling large datasets. Skills in SQL, SSIR, SSRS and data science are advantageous.
- Experience working with a broad range of stakeholders and delivering effectively to people at every level of an organisation.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, together with a proactive, self-motivated, logical and objective approach.
- A flexible, collaborative approach and the ability to adapt quickly and manage multiple tasks in a changing environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently, manage time and prioritise effectively.
