Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council

The insurance team provides the insurance service for the Council, Sandwell Children’s Trust, Kore Sandwell and the West Midlands Fire Service, including the procurement of insurance, a full claims handling service and the management of the Council’s risk management processes.

This role provides an ideal opportunity for someone seeking to advance their career in a team that with a strong customer focus in dealing with a wide range of insurance claims and all while delivering an effective and efficient service.

About the role:

We will be seeking your help in taking responsibility for the handling of all public liability insurance claims, including civil claims, for the whole life cycle of the claim, ensuring agreed targets are met and the claims management system is updated, all in-line with the framework of legislation and best practice and local policy.

You will also play a key role in all aspects of the insurance services functions including providing technical insurance support to non-insurance colleagues, in order to deliver an insurance service to both internal and external clients.

To help foster a positive team attitude, ensuring the Insurance Service is meeting the needs of the Council and its external clients. You will be involved in managing external relationships with claims handling partners, insurers, the Council appointed broker and other external partners including solicitors, loss adjusters and other advisors.

Essential requirements:

  • Recognised insurance qualification with a minimum Cert CII from the Chartered Insurance Institute (or able to demonstrate through significant relevant experience at an equivalent level)
  • A minimum of three years claims handling experience in public liability claims.
  • Knowledge of public sector or commercial insurance programmes.

Please note:

  • This is a part-time role, and you will be expected to work 30 hours per week.
  • This role is eligible for flexible working arrangements.
  • This is a hybrid role, requiring attendance in the office three days per week in line with company policy.
