Senior Internal Auditor

Location: London, UK

Working Arrangement: Hybrid

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full-time

Overview

Our client, an international insurance business, is seeking an experienced Senior Internal Auditor to lead risk-based audits across a range of business functions, processes, and controls. You will handle complex reviews, provide practical recommendations, and work with senior stakeholders to strengthen risk management and the control environment.

The role offers broad exposure across insurance operations and wider internal audit initiatives, including data analytics, AI, underwriting, claims, ESG, and risk culture. There is also potential for travel within the UK, Europe, and other international locations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead risk-based internal audits and other engagements, including complex reviews.
  • Plan, perform, test, and document audit work to a high standard and within agreed timescales.
  • Communicate audit findings and work with management to address risk and control deficiencies.
  • Recommend remediation and control improvements, and monitor agreed management actions.
  • Support new audit approaches including data analysis, integrated audits, and agile working practices.
  • Build effective relationships with management and other stakeholders to understand business needs and monitor the control environment.
  • Coach junior colleagues where required and contribute to the continued development of the audit function.
  • Contribute to internal audit initiatives covering areas such as AI, underwriting, claims, ESG, data analytics, and risk culture.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading risk-based internal audits within insurance or the wider financial services sector.
  • A professional qualification in audit, insurance, risk management, or a related field, or significant progress towards one.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate information using data analysis techniques.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across all levels of management.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality audit outputs within required timescales.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment.

Desirable

  • Experience in specialist insurance areas such as underwriting, claims, reinsurance, or exposure and accumulation management.
  • London Market experience.
