Job Title: Senior Investment Analyst

Location: London

Reporting Line: Chief Investment Officer

Level for Referral Policy: Mid

Who We Are

Founded in 2002 as a pioneering hedge fund, Marble Bar has built its reputation on intellectual discipline, research, data-driven insight, and a deep understanding of investment behaviours. Since its founding, the firm has helped portfolio managers identify repeatable processes within their investment practice and sustain their edge in constantly evolving markets. For over twenty years, we have successfully identified exceptional managers and created environments to help them generate durable returns.

This role sits alongside the Chief Investment Officer on a new strategy being built on the Marble Bar platform, drawing on the firm's long operating history, infrastructure, and institutional relationships.

Your Role

We are looking for an experienced markets professional, someone who has spent several years close to markets, has been accountable for understanding what is driving them, and can articulate clearly how those drivers translate into portfolio risk, positioning, and opportunity. This is not a data-gathering role. The expectation is judgement: what matters, why it matters, and what it means for the book.

Alongside that, the successful candidate will build the systems that allow this judgement to be applied consistently in the form of standardised research formats and AI-assisted workflows that ensure every company, every day, and every event is assessed against the same structure. The strongest candidates will see these as two halves of the same job rather than competing demands.

Joining at the outset, the successful candidate will help shape how the strategy researches, monitors, and records its decisions from day one, working in close daily contact with the CIO.

The team is small, approximately ten people in total across investment, technology, and operations, so the role carries real impact from day one and direct access to senior decision-makers.

Your Key Areas of Impact

Market Analysis & Portfolio Positioning

  • Form and communicate a clear view on what is driving global equity markets, macro, policy, rates, flows, positioning, and sentiment, and how that view is evolving.
  • Translate market drivers into portfolio implications: which exposures are helped, which are threatened, and where the book is carrying risk it is not being paid for.
  • Assess portfolio positioning against the prevailing regime, and identify where the two are misaligned.
  • Integrate market analysis with portfolio analysis, so that the daily read on markets connects directly to the drivers of performance, risk, and positioning.
  • Anticipate the events, data, and market dynamics most likely to matter to the portfolio over the coming days and weeks.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Investment Reporting

  • Own a structured suite of reports across the trading day. These are analytical products, not summaries. Each is expected to carry a view and a conclusion.
  • A core objective of the first twelve months is to progressively automate their production, reducing manual effort while improving consistency.

Portfolio Management Support

  • Monitor active positions against their original investment thesis.
  • Track defined game plans, catalysts, holding periods, and expected time horizons.
  • Identify thesis drift, time decay, and changing risk/reward dynamics.
  • Generate timely reminders, observations, and recommendations where positions require reassessment.
  • Support ongoing exposure analysis and position monitoring across both long and short books.

Research & Intelligence

  • Produce bespoke research on individual companies at the CIO's request, structured for efficient decision-making.
  • Assess the relevance, significance, and likely market impact of new information as it emerges.
  • Maintain research files and update investment cases as the evidence changes.
  • Apply the firm's scoring framework consistently across names, so that conclusions are comparable across the portfolio and over time.

Market Intelligence & Catalyst Monitoring

  • Build and maintain forward-looking catalyst calendars covering earnings, corporate actions, capital markets activity, regulatory events, product launches, investor presentations, macroeconomic releases, and industry-specific events.
  • Highlight upcoming events likely to influence portfolio positions or generate investment opportunities.
  • Maintain a standing view of what is scheduled, what is likely to matter, and what the portfolio's exposure to it is.

Screening & Idea Generation

  • Assist in the design, development, and continual refinement of proprietary stock-screening tools.
  • Run and maintain screens aligned with the firm's quantitative and discretionary investment process.
  • Support idea generation through quantitative analysis, AI-assisted research, and systematic screening.
  • Help source, rank, and prioritise investment opportunities using defined criteria.

Research Systems & AI

  • Design standardised output formats for recurring research and reporting, so that every company, every day, and every event is assessed against the same structure.
  • Build and maintain AI-assisted workflows that produce these outputs consistently, turning manual analysis into repeatable process without losing analytical judgement.
  • Progressively automate the daily reporting suite, with an explicit objective of reducing manual production time over the first twelve months.
  • Apply structured prompting, templating, and tool integration to compress research time on new names and events.
  • Own the quality of what the systems produce: knowing where AI output is reliable, where it is not, and building the checks that catch the difference.

General Investment Support

  • Provide analytical and operational support across all aspects of the investment process as required.
  • Ensure the CIO's time, information, and analysis are organised, prioritised, and accessible.
  • Take responsibility for ad hoc projects end to end, from definition through to delivered output.

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years in an institutional markets environment (buy-side, sell-side, or a comparable seat with genuine daily market exposure).
  • A demonstrable record of forming views on markets and being accountable for them, rather than reporting the views of others.
  • Fluency in the drivers of equity markets: macro and policy, rates and currencies, sector and factor dynamics, flows, positioning, and sentiment.
  • The ability to connect market-level developments to portfolio-level consequences, and to explain that linkage concisely to a decision-maker under time pressure.
  • Practical understanding of long/short portfolio construction, gross and net exposure, factor and sector risk, attribution, and the distinction between alpha and beta.
  • Sound knowledge of company fundamentals and the drivers of share prices, with the confidence to hold a view on an individual name.
  • A systems-minded approach to research: naturally reduces a repeated task to a defined format, then builds the process that produces it.
  • Fluency with modern AI tools (like AI systems) as working instruments rather than novelties, able to design structured, repeatable workflows rather than one-off prompts.
  • Comfort working with data at volume, synthesising large and unstructured information flow into standardised, decision-ready output.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, able to compress a complex market picture into something a CIO can act on.
  • Sound judgement, intellectual honesty, and the discipline to deliver to a fixed daily schedule without loss of accuracy.

This position requires you to be based in our London office from Monday to Friday. The working day begins at 07:30h London time, ahead of the European open.
