About RA
Resident Advisor has been a home for electronic music culture since 2001. Event discovery, ticketing, news and long-form editorial, artist profiles, original films, and a weekly mix series two decades deep. Around 7 million people use the web platform every month, with a wider audience across our apps and other channels. Underneath the platform sits a network of contributors and city managers across dozens of cities, which is how we stay connected to the scenes we cover rather than reporting on them from a distance. RA is 25 years old, independent, B.Corp certified and intent on being indispensable to the artists, promoters and audiences who make this culture.
The role
You'll be a senior engineer on the RA Guide iOS app: shaping how it's built, leading the technical design of larger features, and raising the bar on quality with the Apps lead.
RA Guide is RA's app for browsing events and buying tickets, native on iOS and Android and used by thousands of people every day. We also make RA Scan, a cross-platform app promoters use to scan tickets at the door. You'll join the Apps team: the Apps lead (who also builds on iOS), an Android developer and a product manager, working closely with design and the web teams who build the APIs the app uses.
We release weekly. Native releases can't be rolled back once they're out, so we care about getting each one right: tests, careful review, and watching what happens after release.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical design of larger features, including the specs that line up iOS and Android on the same APIs
- Own areas of the codebase, and modernise older parts of it safely
- Raise release quality: automated UI tests on native frameworks, crash analysis and monitoring
- Review code and mentor other developers
- Work with the web and platform teams on the APIs the app depends on
- Help shape how the team uses AI in development, and where it shouldn't

Who We Are Looking For
- Several years building and releasing iOS apps used at scale
- Deep experience with Swift, app architecture and refactoring code that's already live
- Testing and coding habits for stable app releases
- You make the developers around you better, through review, pairing and clear explanation
- You can explain a technical trade-off to product and design in plain terms
If you meet most of these but not all, we'd still like to hear from you. We'll help you grow into the rest.
Nice to have
- SwiftUI, reactive programming and GraphQL
- A/B testing, phased rollouts and data tracking
- Monitoring tools such as Datadog
- Android or cross-platform experience
- An interest in electronic music and the scenes RA serves

This role is a full-time based in London at our Head Office. Please note: this position requires applicants to be based in London and to work from the office three days per week.
