Role Description

As a Senior IP Security Engineer, you'll play a critical role in keeping Virgin Media O₂'s enterprise and security infrastructure running securely, reliably and around the clock. Supporting a large-scale network estate, you'll act as a technical expert within the team, resolving complex issues, restoring services, and helping ensure our customers and partners remain connected without interruption. Based within our Core Operations team, you'll work across a diverse range of technologies including enterprise networks, firewalls, DNS, VPN platforms and cloud-based infrastructure.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll take ownership of high-priority incidents, contribute to the introduction of new technologies, and proactively drive improvements that enhance both network performance and customer experience. You'll collaborate with technical teams, vendors and stakeholders across the business, while also coaching and mentoring colleagues to build capability within the team. As part of the role, you'll participate in a 24/7 on-call rota supporting critical IP and security services.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
