The Role
ADS is seeking an experienced and hands-on Senior IT Engineer to play a leading role in the development, resilience and modernisation of the Group’s IT infrastructure.
Reporting to the Head of IT and Information Security, the Senior IT Engineer will be responsible for supporting ADS’s core on-premise infrastructure while leading the design and delivery of its migration from on-premise Active Directory to Microsoft Entra. The role will help ensure that technology services remain secure, reliable and responsive throughout the transition, with minimal disruption to the organisation.
This is a varied and highly practical role covering Active Directory, VMware ESXi, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, network infrastructure, backups and email security. The successful candidate will take ownership of agreed technical areas, resolve escalated issues and work closely with colleagues, stakeholders and external suppliers to maintain service continuity and deliver infrastructure improvements.
Alongside the migration programme, the Senior IT Engineer will support business-as-usual IT operations, contribute to disaster recovery planning and help maintain the technical controls required for Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO 27001. Security, documentation and knowledge-sharing will be central to the role, ensuring that systems are supported effectively and knowledge is embedded across the wider IT team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Person
We are seeking an experienced infrastructure professional with demonstrable experience of designing and delivering an on-premise Active Directory to Microsoft Entra migration, ideally through the full project lifecycle rather than solely through the administration of an established Entra environment.
The successful candidate will have strong technical experience across Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Intune, together with a solid understanding of Windows Server, VMware ESXi, network configuration and Cisco switching. Experience of mobile device management, including Apple devices, and email security technologies such as Mimecast, SPF, DKIM and DMARC will also be important.
You will have a practical understanding of information security principles and frameworks, including Cyber Essentials and ISO 27001, and will be comfortable ensuring that security and governance requirements are built into technical solutions from the outset. Knowledge of public DNS management, Cloudflare, network technologies and data circuits would be beneficial.

This role would suit someone who is comfortable working independently, balancing strategic infrastructure projects with day-to-day operational demands and acting as a point of technical escalation. Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills are essential, including the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly to non-technical colleagues and work effectively with third-party suppliers.
