Senior Java Developer
Location: London
Contract: 12 months
Work Setup: Hybrid - 3 days in the office

Who You Will Work With
Our client is a global financial services firm that manages wealth, navigates complex markets, and design strategic financial objectives. The firm provides risk management solutions across a variety of sectors, emphasizing long-term relationships, and innovative approaches to financial challenges.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate within a large global team to enhance and maintain large-scale, distributed enrichment and allocation systems.
- Modernise applications using technologies such as Java 21, Spring Boot 3.3+, Gradle, MongoDB and Kafka to improve reliability, scalability and observability.
- Design, develop and test strategic functional and non-functional enhancements in line with evolving business and regulatory requirements.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues involving inter-process communication, threading, memory management, messaging, databases, caching and data enrichment logic.
- Identify opportunities to align processes and consolidate related systems, reducing duplication and simplifying future maintenance.
- Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback and develop secure, high-quality software that follows engineering best practices and design patterns.
- Support departmental transformation and operational objectives while ensuring strong application performance, availability and scalability.

What You Bring
- Strong proficiency in Java, including Spring and Gradle, with experience developing and maintaining large-scale applications.
- Solid database expertise across DB2, Sybase and Mongo, together with strong SQL skills.
- Hands-on experience with messaging technologies, particularly Kafka and IBM MQ.
- Proficiency in Linux or Unix environments, shell scripting and, ideally, Python.
- Exposure to DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and Kubernetes.
- Previous experience modernising, re-engineering or migrating complex, large-scale systems.
- Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and collaborate effectively across global teams.
