About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to join our expanding team at Wolviston Management Services. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a dynamic environment, contributing to the design, development, and deployment of enterprise-scale applications. As a Senior Java Developer, you will collaborate closely with clients to understand their business needs and translate them into scalable, high-quality software solutions. The role involves engaging with cross-functional teams, including product owners, analysts, QA engineers, and DevOps specialists, to ensure the successful delivery of projects. This position is based on a hybrid working model, with office attendance required approximately once a month at either Newcastle or Edinburgh, providing flexibility while maintaining a strong connection to the team and clients.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in Java development, with proven experience in building robust, scalable applications. Essential qualifications include proficiency in modern Java frameworks such as Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and Hibernate/JPA. Experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices is crucial, alongside a solid understanding of software engineering principles and best practices. Candidates should have experience working within Agile environments, with familiarity in version control systems like Git and modern development workflows. Excellent problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, and previous experience in client-facing or consultancy roles are also required.

Desirable qualifications include experience in financial services, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and knowledge of event-driven architectures and messaging systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-scale Java applications that meet client requirements and industry standards.
  • Collaborate directly with clients to gather requirements, understand business challenges, and translate these into technical solutions.
  • Participate in solution design and technical architecture discussions to ensure scalable and maintainable software.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code that adheres to best practices and coding standards.
  • Work within Agile delivery teams to plan, develop, and deliver high-quality software solutions on time.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews, support peer development, and promote best practices across the team.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level developers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Engage with Product Owners, Business Analysts, QA Engineers, and DevOps teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Support ongoing process improvements, tooling enhancements, and automation initiatives to optimize development workflows.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and innovative solutions to enhance client offerings and internal capabilities.
