About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Java Developer to join our dynamic technology team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting and developing critical applications within the Futures & Options and Collateral business units for our global markets division. This is a hybrid role based in Bromley and London, requiring three days in the office per week to facilitate collaboration and effective communication with team members and stakeholders across multiple locations, including Singapore, India, New York, and Chicago.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Java and related technologies, with a proven track record of designing, developing, testing, and supporting microservices and web-based applications in complex financial environments. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work on impactful projects within a collaborative, fast-paced setting, contributing to the enhancement of core trading and collateral management systems.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a robust educational background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Extensive professional experience in Java development, particularly within financial services, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in enterprise Java frameworks, microservices architecture, and database programming. Familiarity with Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and version control tools is also required.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Experience working with cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, and OpenShift.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a global team.
  • A proactive attitude, problem-solving skills, and a keen eye for detail.

Responsibilities

The Senior Java Developer will be responsible for developing, enhancing, and supporting a suite of critical microservices and portlets using Enterprise/Core Java, JMS, Spring Framework, JDBC, and Java ORM technologies. The role involves liaising closely with both technical and business colleagues across multiple locations to understand requirements, troubleshoot issues, and deliver high-quality solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and implementing new features.
  • Maintaining existing applications.
  • Resolving Level 3 production support issues efficiently.
  • Participating in code reviews.
  • Contributing to technical documentation.
  • Ensuring adherence to best practices in software development, including CI/CD processes.

Collaboration is vital, as the role requires working with teams spread across London, Singapore, and India. The candidate will also engage with business product owners and end-users to define requirements and ensure the delivered solutions meet operational needs. Developing technical designs and participating in Agile development cycles will be integral to the role.
