📅 Contract: Inside IR 35
🔒 Clearance: Active SC Clearance preferred, or candidates with a strong likelihood of obtaining SC clearance due to previously held or lapsed clearance
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Java Developer to join a high-profile UK Gov programme, supporting the development of next-generation Electronic Monitoring capabilities.
You'll play a key role in designing and building cloud-native, event-driven services, developing Authority-owned APIs, operational tooling, and modern digital services while contributing to the continuous improvement of existing live platforms.
Working within agile, multidisciplinary teams, you'll collaborate closely with Technical Architects, Product Managers, Data Engineers and Delivery Managers to deliver secure, scalable solutions that make a real impact across government.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop secure, scalable cloud-native services and RESTful APIs
- Build event-driven applications using asynchronous messaging technologies
- Develop and implement microservices within AWS environments
- Create integrations between operational systems using APIs and event-driven architectures
- Apply Domain Driven Design (DDD) principles and modern software engineering practices
- Build secure services using authentication and authorisation standards such as OAuth2 and JWT
- Develop reusable components, libraries and engineering patterns to improve consistency across teams
- Ensure solutions are resilient, observable and operationally supportable
- Collaborate with architects, product teams and delivery managers to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions
- Contribute to engineering best practices including automated testing, CI/CD, code reviews and continuous improvement

✅ Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience developing software in Java (Kotlin or Go also beneficial)
- Extensive experience building RESTful APIs using Spring Boot or similar frameworks
- Experience developing event-driven systems using Kafka, SNS/SQS or EventBridge
- Strong AWS cloud-native development experience
- Experience designing highly available, resilient and secure distributed systems
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing and version control
- Experience working within Agile, multidisciplinary delivery teams
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders

⭐ Desirable Skills
- Experience working with telemetry, IoT or event streaming platforms
- Experience with geospatial or location-based systems
- Experience applying Domain Driven Design (DDD) in enterprise environments
📌 Additional Requirements
- Active SC Clearance, or confidence in successfully obtaining clearance
- Willingness to travel to offices in London, as required by the team
- Previous Government or Public Sector experience is advantageous
