About Albany Beck

Albany Beck is a specialist Financial Services Consultancy helping institutions deliver complex change and transformation while building the internal capability to sustain it. We combine subject matter expertise with innovative delivery models that help clients scale efficiently, while offering meaningful, long-term career opportunities to our people. At Albany Beck, you’ll be choosing to work with an organisation that’s passionate about your development and committed to delivering meaningful outcomes for our clients.

Overview

We are looking for a Senior Java Developer to join a high-profile platform engineering team within the bank’s Technology organisation. The team is responsible for developing and evolving a strategic internal platform that enables developers across the bank to deploy, host and run services through a consistent technology experience.

Historically, the platform has been focused on supporting markets-based applications, but the organisation is now bringing together multiple platforms across the bank and rationalising them towards one strategic platform and one developer experience.

This is a major investment area with an ambitious goal for the platform to become the primary hosting platform for the majority of the bank’s applications and services. You will be joining a team of around 18 engineers, with plans to grow to approximately 30 globally. There are opportunities for engineers based in both the UK and Poland.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Developer, you will have a hands-on role in designing, developing and evolving the platform, working across a broad technology stack rather than specialising exclusively in a single programming language.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Build software that enables developers across the organisation to deploy and host services efficiently.
  • Contribute to the integration and rationalisation of existing platforms into a strategic, unified platform.
  • Help maintain and evolve the platform for existing tenants while supporting the wider transformation programme.
  • Work across multiple layers of the technology stack, from infrastructure and operating systems through to core platform services and user-facing interfaces.
  • Design, develop, test and deploy high-quality production software.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects and technology teams across the bank.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues across application, platform and infrastructure layers.

  • Support engineering standards, automation, reliability and continuous improvement.
  • Take ownership of technical problems and deliver pragmatic, scalable solutions.

What We’re Looking For

You should have:

  • Strong commercial software development experience.

  • A broad understanding of software engineering rather than being narrowly focused on one language or technology.
  • Strong Linux/Unix operating system knowledge.
  • Experience developing and supporting production-grade applications and platforms.
  • Good understanding of software development practices including testing, version control, CI/CD and automation.
  • Experience working with APIs, distributed systems and/or platform technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • The ability to work effectively across application and infrastructure boundaries.
  • A willingness to learn new technologies and work outside your core area of expertise.
