About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Engineer to join our dynamic team at Ncounter Limited. This role is pivotal in building secure, scalable, and cloud-native software solutions that enable analysts to transform complex, multi-source data into actionable intelligence. The successful candidate will work on developing and maintaining mission-critical systems that support the UK’s national security initiatives. You will be involved in designing and implementing Java-based microservices, data pipelines, and distributed systems within highly regulated environments. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful projects that enhance national safety, utilizing advanced technologies such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, and Apache NiFi. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in Java development, with significant experience in building scalable microservices and distributed systems. Proven expertise in Spring Boot and cloud-native architectures is essential, along with practical knowledge of container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes or OpenShift. Candidates should have a solid understanding of secure software engineering principles, particularly in sensitive and regulated environments. Experience with Apache NiFi, message brokers, and modern JavaScript frameworks is advantageous. A strong commitment to clean, resilient, and efficient code, coupled with excellent problem-solving abilities, is required. The candidate must hold current or recently active eDV or DV security clearance, as this role involves handling classified information and working within secure environments.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Java services and Apache NiFi data pipelines to ingest, enrich, and process large-scale mission data efficiently and securely.
- Create and deploy secure Spring Boot microservices on OpenShift and Kubernetes platforms, ensuring high availability and resilience.
- Develop event-driven distributed systems utilizing message brokers to facilitate seamless communication between services, data stores, and processing pipelines.
- Build modern JavaScript applications and REST APIs that enable analysts to search, visualize, and manage operational data effectively.
- Implement cross-domain solutions to securely transfer information between networks of varying classifications, adhering to strict security protocols.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the integration and interoperability of various system components.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to uphold high standards of quality and maintainability.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including automation, observability, and DevSecOps practices.
