Senior Java Engineer

Payments Technology

Location: UK Wide / Primarily Remote Working

Salary: Up to £75,000 + Benefits Package

About the Role

We're working with a leading global consultancy seeking experienced Senior Java Engineers to join a specialist payments engineering team delivering large-scale transformation programmes across the banking sector.

This is an opportunity to work on complex payment processing platforms for major financial institutions, helping modernise critical systems through cloud technologies, modern engineering practices and advanced payments frameworks. Teams have supported leading banking organisations across the European market.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Developing and enhancing enterprise-scale payment processing solutions.
  • Building cloud-native applications using Java, Spring Boot and microservices architectures.
  • Working within AWS environments to deliver resilient and scalable platforms.
  • Supporting the implementation of modern payment solutions and integrations.
  • Developing event-driven services using messaging technologies such as Kafka.
  • Collaborating with architects, engineers and stakeholders throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Working closely with banking clients on critical transformation initiatives.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong commercial experience with Java development.
  • Expertise in Spring Boot and microservices-based architectures.
  • Experience working within AWS cloud environments.
  • Knowledge of Apache Kafka and asynchronous messaging solutions.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 20022 payments standards.
  • Hands-on experience with the ICON IPF framework.
  • Experience working with major banking or financial services organisations.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
