Senior Java Engineer – AI & Modernisation

London | Hybrid

Myn is recruiting for a major financial technology organisation investing heavily in the use of AI across software engineering and the modernisation of large-scale technology platforms.

We're looking for an accomplished Senior Java Engineer who combines deep backend engineering experience with practical knowledge of how AI can improve the software development lifecycle.

This isn't a Data Science or Machine Learning research position. It's a hands-on software engineering role for someone who can build and modernise production Java systems while using the latest AI engineering tools to work faster and more effectively.

The role

You'll work on the modernisation of complex backend services, helping move legacy applications towards cleaner APIs, microservices and modern cloud-based architectures.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Alongside hands-on Java engineering, you'll explore how LLMs and AI-assisted development can improve code analysis, refactoring, testing, documentation and delivery automation.

You'll have the opportunity to build reusable AI-enabled engineering workflows and help demonstrate how these tools can be applied safely and effectively within a large production environment.

What we're looking for

  • Extensive Java backend engineering experience
  • Spring Boot, APIs and microservices
  • Experience modernising complex production applications
  • Distributed systems and service-based architectures
  • CI/CD and automated testing
  • Cloud-based application development
  • Strong software design and engineering fundamentals
  • Experience working with business-critical production systems

We're particularly interested in practical experience with some of the following:
