Are you a strong, hands-on Java Engineer with experience building complex, high-performance systems within Banking or Financial Services?
We're hiring on behalf of a leading FinTech consultancy that designs and delivers business-critical technology for some of the world's largest banks and financial institutions.
We're looking for experienced Java Engineers from across the Financial Services market. You could come from Payments, Banking, Cards, Merchant Acquiring, Trading, Capital Markets, Investment Banking or another high-volume financial environment.
You don't need to be a payments specialist - the most important thing is your Java engineering capability.
You'll join a highly skilled engineering team working on complex, distributed and event-driven platforms where performance, resilience, scalability and correctness really matter.
This is a hands-on engineering position, but you'll also have the opportunity to work closely with architects and client teams, understand complex requirements and take solutions through the wider delivery lifecycle into production.
What you'll be doing
- Designing and developing high-performance applications using modern Java and Spring Boot.
- Building scalable microservices and distributed, event-driven systems.
- Developing asynchronous and message-driven applications using technologies such as Kafka.
- Working with MongoDB and other modern data technologies across high-volume platforms.
- Designing clean, maintainable REST APIs and contributing to wider system design.
- Solving complex engineering problems around performance, resilience and scalability.
- Working closely with engineering, architecture and client teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Taking ownership of software from development and testing through to production.
- Contributing to code reviews, technical design discussions and engineering best practices.
- Working with TDD/BDD, automated testing and modern CI/CD practices.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What we're looking for
Technical strength is particularly important. We're looking for engineers who have a strong understanding of Java fundamentals and software engineering principles, rather than simply having worked within a Java-based environment.
Ideally, you'll have:
- Strong commercial experience with Java, ideally Java 17+.
- A strong understanding of Core Java and its underlying fundamentals.
- Strong experience with Spring / Spring Boot and microservices.
- Commercial experience with Kafka or similar messaging/event-driven technologies.
- Experience with MongoDB, another NoSQL database, or a strong wider database background.
- Experience designing and developing distributed, highly available systems.
- Strong experience with REST APIs and asynchronous/message-driven architectures.
- Good knowledge of automated testing, including TDD/BDD.
- Experience with modern CI/CD and engineering practices.
- Experience working within Banking, Financial Services or FinTech.

- Work on complex, business-critical technology for Tier 1 financial institutions.
- Exposure to large-scale, high-volume distributed systems.

If you're a strong Java Engineer from a Financial Services background and enjoy solving complex problems across distributed and event-driven systems, we'd love to hear from you.
