Senior Java Developer – Payments
Location: London (2 days per week) / Remote (3 days per week)
Salary: £95,000 – £120,000 base + 20% bonus
Employment: Permanent
The Opportunity
We’re looking for experienced Senior Java Developers to join a high-performing engineering team working on critical payments technology.
You’ll play a key role in designing and developing secure, scalable payment services, with a strong focus on security architecture, API integration and robust engineering practices. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and wants to work on systems where reliability, security and performance really matter.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design, develop and maintain high-volume payments services and platforms
- Build scalable, secure applications using Java and Spring Boot
- Design and integrate RESTful APIs and third-party payment services
- Contribute to security architecture, authentication, authorisation and secure API design
- Develop cloud-native solutions using AWS
- Write clean, maintainable and highly tested code using TDD
- Work closely with architects, product managers and other engineering teams
- Identify and resolve complex technical and performance issues
- Contribute to technical standards, architecture decisions and engineering best practices
- Help ensure payment systems meet high standards for security, resilience, availability and scalability

What We’re Looking For
- Strong commercial experience as a Senior Java Developer
- Extensive experience with Java and Spring Boot
- Strong understanding of software and security architecture
- Proven experience designing and integrating APIs
- Experience working with payments, financial services or transaction-based platforms
- Strong AWS experience and understanding of cloud architecture
- A strong approach to Test-Driven Development (TDD)
- Excellent understanding of secure coding principles and API security
- Experience working with distributed, highly available systems
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
