About Obsidian
Obsidian is building an all-in-one AI platform for wealth management that takes clients from conversation to custody.
The Role
We are hiring a Backend Software Engineer to join our engineering team. You will design and build the high-performance systems and services that power Obsidian's AI-first wealth management platform.
You will own the backend infrastructure behind our intelligent workflows: the APIs, microservices, and data pipelines that handle billions in assets. You will work alongside engineers from leading fintech and finance companies like Revolut, Wise, Lightyear, and JP Morgan, building scalable systems with a focus on reliability, performance, and clean design.
This role suits you if you like greenfield systems, moving fast, and taking ownership end to end, from architecture through deployment.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain scalable APIs and services that underpin Obsidian's platform.
- Design and evolve distributed systems supporting core features like automation, integrations, and client operations.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code in Java 25, with an emphasis on TDD, DDD, CQRS, and CI/CD.
- Own greenfield development while also improving and refactoring existing systems.
- Ensure system reliability and performance through monitoring and observability.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and clients to ship impactful features.
- Take part in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical planning.
- Set up AI loops to handle parts of your own work.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
