Senior Java Developer | Order Management Systems | London | £100,000 – £150,000 Base
Exceptional Java engineering, applied where it actually matters.
My client — a fast-growing technology joint venture between a global management consulting leader and a global alternative investment fund manager — is hiring a Senior Java Developer to join their technology team, building bespoke systems across banking, financial services and private capital. This is a rare opportunity for a genuinely exceptional Java engineer to work close to the trading lifecycle, on Order Management Systems, where code quality and performance are not secondary concerns — they are the job.

Overview
You'll be working deep within Order Management Systems, buy side or sell side, delivering high-performance, mission-critical software for Front Office and trading functions. This is not a maintenance role — it's a chance to shape systems that are actively being built and scaled, with direct exposure to the trading lifecycle and the people who depend on it.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will take technical ownership of complex Java systems end-to-end, working closely with Front Office stakeholders, traders, and subject matter experts to understand requirements and deliver pragmatic, high-performance solutions. You'll be expected to make and defend sound architectural and engineering decisions, drive code quality across the team, and operate comfortably in an environment where precision and speed both matter.
Desired Skills
- Exceptional, proven Java skills — deep, hands-on expertise, not familiarity
- Financial Services experience, ideally within Order Management Systems, on either buy side or sell side
- An outstanding academic track record — this client hires on raw academic ability first
- Strong understanding of system performance, concurrency, and low-latency design is desirable
- Comfort and credibility working close to the Front Office, where engineering decisions have immediate, visible impact
- The judgement to own technical decisions rather than simply implement someone else's
- Strong communication skills, confident engaging directly with traders, stakeholders, and senior technical peers
