A leading Financial Services organisation is looking to appoint a Senior Microservices Engineer with Java & Spring/Springboot to join an established Agile engineering team responsible for developing and enhancing a suite of enterprise applications.

This is an excellent opportunity for a developer with a couple of years commercial Java experience who enjoys building high-quality software in a collaborative environment. You'll work alongside experienced engineers, contributing across the full software development lifecycle and helping to deliver modern, scalable solutions that support key business functions.

The role is predominantly remote, with one day per week in the Leicester office. It is offering a base of £60,000 + excellent benefits.

The Role

As a Senior Microservices Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of scalable and resilient microservices-based applications within the Technology Engineering team. You will work closely with cross-functional scrum teams to deliver high-quality solutions aligned with business and technical requirements.

You will be responsible for implementing microservices using best practices, ensuring consistency, reusability, and maintainability across services. You will actively participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards.

In this role, you will mentor junior engineers, support the adoption of modern engineering practices, and help identify and resolve technical issues early to reduce risk and prevent technical debt. You will also contribute to the creation and tracking of team-level KPIs and support management in driving strategic initiatives.

Required Skills

  • 2+ years of hands-on software development experience.
  • Strong experience with Java, JVM-based technologies, and the Spring ecosystem.
  • Experience designing and developing applications using Spring Boot and microservices architecture.
  • Proven experience building and supporting Java-based microservices in production environments, demonstrating the technical capability expected of a Senior Engineer.
  • Strong track record of working within Agile delivery teams, with a solid understanding of iterative development, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to influence technical decisions, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and contribute to the broader engineering strategy and vision.
  • Experience mentoring and supporting junior engineers, helping to accelerate their development and successfully integrate into Agile teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering scalable, reliable, and maintainable software solutions.
