About the Role
We're seeking someone to join our Equity Swaps Trading Technology team as a Senior Java/Scala Developer in ESTAR to work on our Scala-based processing engines for our Regulatory Reporting systems in a capital markets environment, dealing with global compliance regulations. Our Technology group support the market leading Equity Swaps Trading business from front office swap and trade capture systems for traders, to middle and back-office processing.
This is a global team that supports the OTC Equity Swap Portfolio, Single Name, and Index derivative businesses. We provide functionally rich global trading platforms, with a focus on increased automation, efficiency, and optimization. While most of the codebase is written in Scala, we will also consider strong Java developers who are interested in learning Scala; many of our developers have successfully transitioned from Java into this Scala environment.

This is a Principal Software Engineer position at Vice President level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs.

What you'll do in the role:
- Join the Regulatory Reporting agile squad supporting the Equity Swaps Trading technology group and global OTC Equity Swap Portfolio, Single Name, and Index derivative businesses.
- Develop and support Scala-based regulatory reporting systems in a capital markets environment, helping the business meet global compliance requirements.
- Build enhancements and fixes for intraday and end-of-day reporting systems, including unit testing, UAT support, release notes, signoff coordination, deployment activities, and post-release production support.
- Own complex problems and key feature delivery, partnering with business users and stakeholders to understand requirements and support regulatory reporting obligations.

What you'll bring to the role:
- Strong Java developers with an interest in learning Scala will also be considered, as most of the codebase is written in Scala.
- Enterprise-level Scala development experience is preferred.
- Experience using AI tools such as Claude, Amp, Deep Search, or similar to accelerate the software development lifecycle while maintaining strong technical judgment and oversight.
- Understanding of message- and event-based architectures, including technologies such as MQ and Kafka.
- Experience working in Unix/Linux environments.
- Basic scripting experience in Unix, Perl, or Python would be beneficial.
- Experience with Relational Databases, including writing and optimising SQL queries to extract information.
- At least 8 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role.
- Minimum Bachelors in Computer Science / Maths / Engineering / Science disciplines or equivalent experience.
- Interest in learning the business supported by the applications.
Skills that will help you in the role but not essential:
- Understanding of global regulatory reporting requirements
- Knowledge of the Equity Derivatives
- Knowledge of Agile software development practices
- Database performance tuning
- Experience integrating AI-assisted development tools into a real engineering workflow
