Front Office KDB+ Engineer – Equities

Hybrid | London - up to £180k + bonus

We are hiring an experienced Senior KDB+ Engineer to join a front-office Equities technology team supporting high-performance trading, market data and quantitative analytics platforms.

This is a hands-on engineering role working directly with traders, quantitative researchers and other front-office stakeholders. You will design and build scalable KDB+/q solutions used for real-time decision-making, historical analysis and trading strategy development.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop and enhance high-performance KDB+/q applications for Equities trading.
  • Build real-time and historical market data platforms capable of processing large volumes of tick data.
  • Work directly with traders and quantitative teams to translate business requirements into production-quality solutions.
  • Develop analytics, data models and APIs supporting trading, pricing, execution and risk workflows.
  • Improve the performance, scalability and resilience of existing KDB+ systems.
  • Investigate production issues and provide responsive front-office support.
  • Integrate KDB+ platforms with upstream market data feeds and downstream trading applications.
  • Contribute to architecture, testing, deployment and engineering standards across the platform.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve data quality.

Essential experience

  • Strong commercial experience developing production systems using KDB+/q.
  • Experience working within a front-office Equities trading environment.
  • Deep knowledge of time-series data, tick data and high-volume market data processing.
  • Experience designing real-time tickerplants, real-time databases and historical databases.
  • Strong understanding of KDB+ performance optimisation, memory management and query efficiency.
  • Experience working directly with traders, quantitative researchers or trading desk stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of Equities products and the electronic trading lifecycle.
  • Strong Linux and scripting skills.
  • Ability to diagnose complex production issues in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to operate effectively across technology and trading teams.

Desirable experience

  • Experience with cash equities, equity derivatives, electronic trading or systematic trading.
  • Knowledge of order and execution data, transaction-cost analysis or market microstructure.
  • Experience integrating KDB+ with Python, Java or C++ applications.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, containerisation and modern deployment pipelines.
  • Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka.
  • Knowledge of FIX connectivity and electronic execution workflows.
