UL Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) Practitioner to join our growing Product Sustainability team in Europe. This customer-facing role combines technical expertise, innovation, and sustainability leadership to deliver ISO-compliant LCAs, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), and Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) for global clients.

The ideal candidate is multilingual, internationally minded, and possesses a strong understanding of LCA standards, environmental regulations, comparative analytics, and decarbonization strategies. Most importantly, you bring a forward-thinking vision of where sustainability assessment is headed and a passion for helping shape what comes next.

With 5+ years of LCA experience, relevant certification, and strong knowledge of evolving regulations such as EU Battery Regulation, DPP, CBAM, and EPR, you will help organizations understand and reduce their environmental impacts.

Working across global teams, you will leverage advanced digital tools, guide sustainability strategies, contribute to industry working groups, and help define what's next for LCA and product sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full LCA technical service to project manage LCA projects and ensure compliance, transparency, clarity and readiness of the LCA based services for third party critical review.
  • Generate LCAs and simplified EPDs, PCFs and/or regulatory preparation documentation including Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) assessments, CBAM preparation, EU Battery Regulation, PEP, PCF per PACT v 3 (WBCSD), Catena-X and sector specific reports that require an LCA, EPD or/and PCF.
  • Solid understanding of global Product Category Rules (PCR) for core customer products, especially building and construction materials.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and interact with customers, leadership and global colleagues.
  • Exceptional analytical and communication skillset enabling clear results communicated and knowledge transfer to various stakeholders.
  • Provide clear, consistent, data-driven LCA results for customers environmental impact decision-making, decarbonization, sensitivity and uncertainty analytics.
  • Maintain current knowledge base to perform LCA as a practitioner and associated product level services (PCR, PCF, EPD, Optimization, PEP) including ISO 14025, ISO 14040, ISO 14044, ISO 15804, ISO 14025, ISO 14067, EN15804+A1+A2, ISO21930, WCSBD (PACT) and other standards and frameworks for product and system level LCA services.
  • Able to work directly with clients to obtain and analyze complex primary datasets and gaps.
  • Provide thought leadership to the UL Solutions expanding software capabilities to ensure data accuracy, comparability and quality.
  • Contribute as a technical lead to Product Category Rule (PCR) open consultation and working groups as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree in scientific discipline or engineering.
  • Language requirement: Fluent in English and at least one other EMEA language.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in a position requiring Senior Level technical LCA modeling and work involving extensive quantitative data analysis.
  • Experience modeling EPDs from LCAs and where available, technical product level knowledge of the PCRs that guide this process.
  • Comfortable with customers and scoping their needs to support sales teams.
  • Solid experience analyzing both experimental and modeled foreground and secondary data sets.
  • Strong understanding of LCA models including SimaPro, Gabi, OpenLCA, Excel based GREET and/or Python with the ability to project manage from client data compilation through LCA, reporting and collaboration with external verifiers.
  • Experience in LCA related services including Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and ISO/ EN standards language.
  • Expansive knowledge of secondary datasets, e.g. TRACI, EcoInvent, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Qualified Engineering or LCA Practitioner Certification.
  • Qualified as a PEP Ecopassport Verifier.
  • Knowledge or certification of Corporate Sustainability and/or Environmental Social Governance (ESG) reporting frameworks, including regulatory frameworks relative to Scope 3 and PCF.
  • Participation in the global LCA conversation either as a panelist/ speaker or presenter in online webinars.
  • Proficiency in programming in Python for models, algorithms, and code reviews.
  • Expertise in technical committees on lifecycle assessment, engineering, atmospheric chemistry, environmental science, and/or computational sustainability.
  • Working knowledge in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • Peer reviewed published research work as articles or technical reports in academic conferences or industry circles.
