Lead AI-First Software Engineer
Type: contract
Day rate: £600 per day (outside IR35)
Location: Liverpool (2 days per week)
From the CTO:
"We're embarking on a major modernisation programme for one of our core business platforms. An internal proof of concept has already demonstrated what's possible using AI-assisted engineering. Your role will be to take that concept into production, creating a scalable engineering approach that accelerates software delivery while maintaining high standards of quality, security and maintainability."
This isn't a traditional Senior or Lead Engineer role. We're looking for someone who sees AI as a force multiplier. This is about far more than migrating applications. It's about redefining how engineering teams build software utilising AI tools particularly Codex.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
