Senior/ Lead AWS Cloud Platform Engineer – Contract

London - Hybrid

Inside IR35

We are working with a leading financial services organisation looking for an experienced AWS Cloud Platform Engineering Lead to join its Enterprise Cloud Engineering function on an initial contract.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building, operating and securing an enterprise-scale AWS platform within a highly regulated environment.

A major focus of the programme is creating an AI-first, agentic-native cloud platform, building the paved roads, automation and platform capabilities that allow both engineering teams and autonomous AI agents to securely develop, test and deploy applications into production.

The Role

You will work across AWS platform engineering, developer experience, security and automation, with responsibilities including:

  • Designing and delivering AWS developer platforms and standardised paved roads for application and infrastructure delivery.
  • Engineering and operating AWS Landing Zones, including AWS Organizations, Control Tower and Account Factory for Terraform (AFT).
  • Building automated account-vending capabilities and governance guardrails including SCPs.
  • Developing modular, production-grade Terraform Infrastructure as Code.
  • Building and operating CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions / Workflows, incorporating automated testing, security scanning and quality controls.
  • Implementing preventative and detective AWS security controls across areas including AWS Config, Security Hub, vulnerability management and policy as code.
  • Building Python-based cloud automation and services using Python, Boto3 and AWS Lambda.
  • Working across AWS networking, compute, storage, containers and serverless technologies including VPC, ECS, EKS and Lambda.
  • Developing reusable agent skills and MCP servers as the organisation expands its agentic AI engineering capabilities.
  • Building SRE capabilities around monitoring, operational stability, release management and incident response.
  • Working closely with security, application and platform engineering teams to improve developer experience while maintaining enterprise governance.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Strong commercial experience across:

  • Enterprise-scale AWS platform engineering
  • AWS Landing Zones, Organizations and Control Tower
  • AFT / automated AWS account vending
  • Terraform
  • GitHub Actions / CI/CD / GitOps
  • AWS security and governance
  • Python, Boto3 and Lambda
  • Linux
  • AWS networking and core infrastructure services
  • Automated testing of infrastructure and platform services
  • Building developer platforms, self-service capabilities or paved roads

Experience working within financial services or another highly regulated enterprise environment would be particularly relevant.

Exposure to agentic AI infrastructure, MCP, AWS Bedrock / AgentCore or policy-as-code technologies such as OPA, Cedar or Sentinel would be advantageous but is not essential.

This would suit a senior AWS Platform Engineer / Cloud Platform Engineer who remains highly hands-on technically and enjoys building secure, automated platforms rather than operating purely at an architectural or management level.
