Dead Mans Shoes: waiting for the person above you to retire, resign, or finally make good on a promise before you're allowed to move up.

This job isn't about swapping one queue for a slightly shorter one. There is no queue. The function is brand new, and you'd have the opportunity to lead and grow the CDM part of the Building Safety team from day one.

The biggest problem for Senior CDM and upwards, is how you move up and make the next step when there's people ahead of you, or you're stuck on delivery and aren't getting the opportunity to work more on fee quotes and setting up policies and services.

Here's where you'll get to dip your toe in early, and be in the 'Head of' title in 6 - 12 months.

You'd work for an established compliance group with three businesses already winning the kind of work that needs a CDM Principal Designer. So there's existing clients, and work literally coming through the door.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
