Senior / Lead Power BI Developer

Remote / London (A few days onsite in London per month if possible) | 6+ Week Contract | Inside IR35

One of our clients, a leading Financial Services consultancy, is looking for an experienced Senior / Lead Power BI Developer to support a short-term engagement delivering high-quality reporting and dashboard solutions for a client within the Wealth Management sector.

The successful candidate will be responsible for taking ownership of the reporting solution from requirements through to delivery, integrating data from multiple source systems into scalable Power BI dashboards and semantic models. This is a fast-paced engagement requiring someone who can quickly understand complex business requirements, work independently and deliver robust, production-ready Power BI solutions.

  • Design, develop and enhance enterprise Power BI dashboards and reports.
  • Build and optimise semantic models, star schemas and enterprise data models.
  • Develop complex DAX measures, calculations and Power Query transformations.
  • Design and optimise ETL/ELT processes to integrate data from multiple business systems into a trusted reporting layer.
  • Work with SQL and Azure-based data sources to prepare and model data for reporting.
  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Ensure reports are performant, well-governed, user-friendly and suitable for self-service analytics.
  • Support deployment, testing, documentation and knowledge transfer at project completion.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Extensive commercial experience developing enterprise reporting solutions using Microsoft Power BI.
  • Strong experience with semantic modelling, dimensional modelling (star schema) and enterprise data modelling.
  • Advanced knowledge of DAX, Power Query (M) and report optimisation techniques.
  • Strong understanding of ETL/ELT processes, data transformation and integrating multiple source systems into a single reporting model.
  • Experience working with SQL Server, Azure SQL or other relational databases.
  • Experience with Power BI Service, deployment, workspace management, gateways, security and scheduled refreshes.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Synapse or other modern Microsoft data platform technologies would be advantageous.
  • Proven experience delivering reporting solutions within Wealth Management.
  • Alternatively, strong experience within Asset Management, Investment Management, Banking or Financial Services.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, lead delivery and produce high-quality solutions within tight project timescales.
