Role Overview

The Senior Project Engineering Lead is accountable for the delivery of the HVDC Control, Protection, Automation, and V&V scope of work for a project in strict accordance with the cost, time, and technical requirements of that project and in-line with any operational processes that the project may use as part of its execution.

This shall be achieved through the efficient management of the C&P department resources allocated to the project and by the application of the processes coming from the relevant C&P functions, whilst always working in close collaboration with the C&P functional leaders towards the common objective of successful project delivery.

This person is accountable for overall C&P engineering activities, manages engineering budget, defines the quality plan, implements change management process, supervises, governs, and leads all C&P engineering activities required to execute the project, whether in-house or by suppliers/subcontractors.

This person is also responsible to review and develop project execution process, propose improvements to existing process, and align it with the overall GE Vernova process.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver the HVDC Control, Protection, Automation, and V&V scope of work for a project focusing on the close adherence to the global time schedule of engineering scope, ensuring the coherency of links between engineering activities and other project functions activities (NPI, Design, Procurement, manufacturing, V&V, commissioning) and anticipate and mitigate project delivery issues of concerned activities.
  • Carry out regular and thorough reviews of the progress and delivery of the Control, Protection, Automation, and V&V scope of work assessing all aspects of the project, including time, cost, quality, and risks.
  • Prepare and deliver a comprehensive project report as part of the governance of the project and as part of the reporting process for the overall project - This shall be done at least monthly.
  • Ensure that the provided resources are used efficiently and working in accordance with the established processes via rigorous and open collaboration with the C&P functions.
  • Plan and manage technical interfaces, put in place exchange interface sheets with partners, customers, and third-party contractors.
  • Accountable for project delivery Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as First Time Yield (FTY's), On-Time Delivery (OTD) and budget for C&P scope including adherence to Quality, compliance to standards, and regulations.
  • Providing leadership and supporting solution engineer to ensure the reference solution and the agreed gaps are delivered in accordance with the project technical specifications and rigorously enforcing the change process and policy on any deviations.
  • Motivate and empower project engineering team, insights, and rewards to the team and provide feedback on project team to their respective functional managers during performance reviews.
  • Maintain and manage lessons learned from cross projects and ensure the lessons learned are flowed in improvement of process, and solution.
  • Assess risks including risk mitigation plans and ensure the risks are communicated at all project level.
  • Conduct project risk review meeting and update risk register with mitigation plan when required.
  • Request/attend Customer technical meetings when needed/upon request.
  • Check effectiveness of design against delivery of contract requirements within project budget and look for global cost optimization in all design phase and mainly during basic design.
  • Apply Design subcontracting process and support Sourcing and Procurement in the definition of the Supplier's list, in the equipment ITO and FAT procedure review, and during post-order stage according to the project strategy.
  • Develop and enhance continuous improvement within C&P Project community and be responsible for designing new project governance processes and upgrading existing processes.

Essential Experience

  • Engineering degree level or equivalent education in Electrical Engineering.
  • Extensive experience, of which 5 to 10 projects in a position of Lead Project Engineer, managing medium set projects, across several project contexts (technology, scope, contract environment) in EPC type environment in T&D, Power Gen, or Oil & Gas industry.
  • Mastering of involved discipline (process, tools, technical aspects) and successful experience in management of multi-disciplinary teams with multiple interfaces and with products coming from several countries.
  • Provide technical leadership, advice, and assistance to the overall project team as appropriate.
  • Support the Project (Engineering) Manager as required and delegates for them as and when the need arises. Plan and progress all design engineering related activities including testing and commissioning for specific projects.
  • Monitor, control, and manage engineering budgets, project documentation, risk management process, design reviews, and quality & change control system in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Support improvement initiatives and 'cost out' plans in collaborations with teams from other business units.
  • Fluent in English and Demonstrated presentation skills and ability to succinctly communicate complex messages.
  • Demonstrates ownership & accountability, judgment and decision-making, influences & inspires team, relationship building skills, and strong technical problem-solving skills and experience, creates a vision and strategy, and has passion for the role.
  • Takes a critical look at current operations to ensure effectiveness and if necessary, suggests improvement areas.
  • Uses experience and instinct to make relevant decisions in expertise domain to meet deadlines and integrates risk-taking if necessary.
