Our Back-End Engineering team is at the heart of this venture, focused on getting a great banking experience into the hands of our customers - and shaping the engineering culture that builds it.

At JPMorgan Chase, we understand that customers seek exceptional value and a seamless experience from a trusted financial institution. That's why we launched Chase UK to transform digital banking with intuitive and enjoyable customer journeys. With a strong foundation of trust established by millions of customers in the US, we have been rapidly expanding our presence in the UK and soon across Europe. We have been building the bank of the future from the ground up, offering you the chance to join us and make a significant impact.

As a Senior Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the International Consumer Bank, you will play a crucial role in this initiative, dedicated to delivering an outstanding banking experience to our customers. You will work in a collaborative environment as part of a diverse, inclusive, and geographically distributed team. We are seeking individuals with a curious mindset and a keen interest in new technology. Our engineers are naturally solution-oriented and possess an interest in the financial sector and focus on addressing customer needs. We work in teams focused on specific products and projects, providing opportunities to engage in areas such as fraud & financial crime prevention, identity services, money transfers, card payments, lending, customer onboarding, core banking, insurance products, rewards campaigns, and servicing innovations.

Beyond delivering software, you will act as an Engineering Community Lead - a force multiplier across the wider organization. You will drive our Engineering Community pillars of Career Development, Culture, Team Operational Model, and Collaboration, helping raise the bar on how we hire, grow, share knowledge, and set technical standards across the wider organization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Build solutions that avoid single points of failure, using scalable architectural patterns.
  • Develop secure code so that our customers and ourselves are protected from malicious actors.
  • Promptly investigate and fix issues and ensure they do not resurface in the future.
  • Support the products you've built through their entire lifecycle, including in production and during incident management.
  • Champion a healthy, inclusive engineering culture helping teams create, embed, and track action plans that measurably improve team and engineering productivity.
  • Contribute to the review and evolution of the engineering career ladders, define IC expectations and responsibilities.
  • Drive improvements to job descriptions, interview processes, and assessment rubrics; help build interview guidelines, technical question banks, and exercise templates that raise hiring quality and fairness.
  • Establish and sustain communities of practice (guilds / chapters) and office-hour sessions that operate across our wider organization, creating forums for engineers to share knowledge and solve problems together.
  • Contribute to the operational model for shared code and reusable frameworks including scope, ownership, and governance, reducing duplication and raising quality across teams.
  • Help shape location and team strategy, engineering responsibility guidelines (e.g., on-call / production support, security ownership), and sustainable operating models that minimize support overhead while keeping systems reliable.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
