The Mercian Trust

School Senior Leadership Opportunities

We are looking for Middle Leaders ready to take on their first Senior Leadership role, existing Senior Leaders looking to progress to their next promoted role along with experienced Senior Leaders looking to broaden their experience across different schools. We have a range of exciting current roles and career development opportunities to suit you and your professional growth ambitions.

Our Senior Leaders work throughout our diverse family of twelve schools including two alternative provisions schools, two selective secondary schools, a studio school, five comprehensive secondary schools, a primary school, and a special school.

We are looking for leaders who are excited about working at an Academy Trust that puts social mobility and social justice at the heart of everything it does. This career opportunity isn’t solely for one specific leadership role or school, but instead we are looking to put together a team of the most talented school leaders to really make a difference across all of our schools.

By joining this team of new and developing school leaders, you will benefit from a three-year bespoke programme of leadership development, coaching, mentoring and support, enabling you to sustainably grow your career with us.

We are recruiting to these roles with the offer of flexible starting dates. All roles are permanent positions and will be paid on the Leadership scale. You will be employed by The Mercian Trust and initially work in one of our schools to best match your skills and development needs, and our schools’ requirements. You will benefit from the opportunity to experience the diversity of our different school settings.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
