Job Description: Senior Lecturer in AI

The Computer Science Research Centre (CSRC) within the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering is seeking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in AI covering topics including (but not limited to) Natural Language Processing, Large Machine Learning Models, Neurosymbolic AI, Trustworthy Machine Learning, and Applications of AI/ML in Automated Reasoning, Security or Software/Systems Development.

This post is aligned to the Nature Inspired Computing and Engineering (NICE) group within CSRC and is part of a strategic investment in AI. Our current research in AI focuses on solving foundational and real-world problems in areas such as Natural Language Processing, Optimisation, Audio and Vision, AI for Health and Medical Applications, Robotics, and Security.

Responsibilities

  • Expand our dynamic team of internationally recognised AI researchers
  • Link their work across the University including NICE; Surrey Centre for Cybersecurity (SCCS); Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP); the 5G/6G Innovation Centre; the Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI Institute (PAI) and the Surrey Space Institute (SSI)
  • Drive a strategic research direction and align colleagues within CSRC and beyond

Requirements

  • Wide knowledge of the AI field
  • An internationally recognised track record of publications in top-tier venues
  • Evidence of research income
  • Ideally, experience of working with industry and/or government

About Surrey

Computer Science and CVSSP are at the core of PAI, established in 2021 as a pan-University initiative which brings together leading AI research with discipline expertise across health, social, behavioural and engineering sciences, business, law and the creative arts to shape future AI for the benefit of people and society.

AI features in both our UG and MSc curricula as well as training within the CDTs. The candidate would be expected to contribute to these as well as undertake other teaching duties in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
