Senior Legal Counsel - 3-Month Locum Contract

We are currently working in partnership with a University who are recruiting for a Senior Legal Counsel on an initial 3-month locum contract. The position is due to start immediately, and the rate of pay is circa £400 - £450 per day (Umbrella), but this can be negotiable depending on experience.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will have proven experience working within a commercial legal environment, with strong experience in contract drafting, negotiation, and review. Experience within the education or public sector would be advantageous, alongside a strong understanding of data protection, regulatory, and compliance matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a broad range of legal matters, including commercial contracts, procurement projects, charity law, regulatory and compliance matters, data protection, safeguarding, equality issues, and student-related matters
  • Managing a high volume of IT contracts and providing legal support on technology-related matters
  • Preparing, negotiating, and reviewing key commercial contracts, including NDAs, transfer agreements, and consultancy agreements
  • Drafting and negotiating contracts in consultation with colleagues across Academic and Professional Services departments
  • Providing legal advice and support to colleagues across the University
  • Supporting the teaching and research activities of the University through effective commercial and legal advice

Experience Required

  • Qualified legal professional with relevant commercial legal experience
  • Proven experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts
  • Experience handling a broad range of commercial and regulatory legal matters
  • Experience working with internal stakeholders across multiple departments
