Senior Legal Counsel (EfW & Projects)

Salary – in the region of £100,000 per annum, plus CAS / car allowance and benefits
Hours – Full-time
Location & Postcode – Home-based (with some travel) or hybrid

As a Senior Legal Counsel (EfW & Projects) at FCC Environment, you will provide legal support to the business across a wide range of construction and commercial matters, primarily relating to the Energy from Waste division. The role will involve advising on major EfW projects, commercial and construction legal matters, as well as supporting key business areas with legal advice and contract-related matters.

This vacancy is for a full-time position.

What will you be doing?

  • Negotiating, drafting and reviewing a range of commercial contracts, including PPP/PFI contracts, power purchase agreements, construction contracts, offtake arrangements, waste supply agreements, funding documents and operation and maintenance contracts
  • Providing legal advice to all levels of the business
  • Supporting EfW/MRF tenders and construction-related issues for the Development Team
  • Advising on disputes and supporting the business with complex legal matters
  • Managing external legal advisors on large, complex projects and transactions
  • Developing precedents to be used within the business
  • Providing training to the business on a range of legal issues and standard form/FCC precedent contracts
  • Developing business processes with other areas of the business, in conjunction with the Managing Legal Counsel (Commercial)
  • Supporting and developing junior members of staff in relation to EfW and construction-related matters
  • Ensuring health, safety and environmental responsibilities are understood and followed

What are we looking for?

  • A UK-qualified projects/construction solicitor
  • At least nine years’ experience, preferably gained within a top 20 law firm, with in-house experience desirable
  • Experience of advising on and negotiating NEC3, NEC4, IChemE Red Book and MF1 forms of contract from an employer/client perspective
  • Experience in commercial, project finance, public procurement and projects
  • Knowledge of the waste industry or another highly regulated sector would be an advantage
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to provide pragmatic legal advice
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to build credibility across the business
  • Strong attention to detail
  • The ability to work well within a team and support junior members of staff
