Senior Legal Counsel, Procurement
The Senior Legal Counsel, Procurement sits within the Corporate Legal team supporting Haleon’s Global Procurement organisation.
This role will directly handle multiple strategic deals and projects concurrently, providing a broad-based provision of legal support and expertise in commercial transactions for indirect procurement with a particular emphasis on complex Digital & Tech and Marketing deals.
Key responsibilities:
- Review and/or draft, analyse, counsel, and negotiate large strategic indirect procurement transactions (including any related legal, policy, regulatory and compliance issues) integrating legal knowledge with sound business understanding to reach a pragmatic result.
- Act as a point of escalation on the non-strategic but high-volume indirect procurement transactions handled by attorneys in a centralized service centre.
- Provide oversight and advice on playbooks, templates, and processes used by a centralized service centre for such indirect procurement contracting.
- Negotiate and custom draft other legal documents that may arise related to indirect procurement.
- Implement operational excellence projects in the indirect procurement contracting space.
- Research, review, and interpret new or pending legislation and regulations impacting procurement contracting to ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with teams across Group Legal to deliver a unified message while maintaining singular accountability.
- Partner proactively with the head of Indirect Procurement over the procurement of Digital & Tech, Marketing, and Professional Services, and collaborate with other Functions and with the business’s Operating Units, to collectively make decisions and solve business challenges
- Work with Business Owners, Procurement, and Haleon’s litigation team in disputes and litigation efforts related to indirect procurement matters.

Key Requirements:
- UK qualified lawyer
- Substantial experience in commercial contracting.
- Solid understanding of legal concepts in contract law.
- Experience in drafting and negotiating information technology and digital services contracts.
- Experience in drafting and negotiating other categories of indirect procurement contracts, such as marketing agency contracts, consulting, and other professional services.
- Good knowledge and experience of how in-house lawyers collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders resulting in strategic impact.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to be applied internally and externally.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) skills required, together with ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of Haleon management.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage numerous and changing priorities effectively and efficiently, meet deadlines, and work independently as well as in a team environment when required.
Key soft skills: influencing, empathy, analytical thinking, taking initiative, prioritisation, pragmatism, solutions-focused approach and resilience in managing ambiguity.
- Must be able to attend Haleon’s UK offices in Bankside, London at least 2 days a week (may move to 3 days required).

Preferred:
- Knowledge of and experience with laws and regulations associated with the fast-moving consumer goods industry.
- Familiarity with data privacy, cybersecurity, and AI laws and regulations.
- In-house experience.
