This job description sets out the current duties of the job role that may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the job role or the level of responsibility entailed.
Job Purpose
The Senior Operations Supervisor plays a pivotal role in the leadership and operational management of the Leisure Club. Supporting the Club Manager, this role ensures that the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, service, and guest experience are consistently delivered across all leisure facilities. The Senior Supervisor provides strong, visible leadership for both Team Leaders and front-line colleagues, driving operational excellence, compliance, and commercial success.
As a key member of the leisure management team, the postholder is responsible for the day-to-day running of the club, taking ownership of staffing, safety, member engagement, and facility standards. The role also carries direct responsibility for pool plant operations, ensuring mandatory HR compliance training is completed, guaranteeing that pool responder coverage and training are always in place, and maintaining excellent cleaning standards in all areas of the leisure club.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People Management
- Provide direct line management to the Team Leader and support the wider leisure team.
- Act as deputy for the Club Manager, taking full responsibility for the leisure operation when required.
- Drive a positive team culture, leading by example with professionalism, fairness, and integrity.
- Oversee staff scheduling to ensure effective coverage and fair allocation of shifts.
- Conduct one-to-ones, job chats, and performance reviews with Team Leader, supporting them in managing their own teams.
- Identify training needs and coordinate development opportunities, ensuring all staff are confident and competent in their roles.
- Ensure mandatory monthly training is completed for HR compliance across the department.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and induction processes for new team members.

Operational Excellence
- Oversee the daily operations of the leisure facilities, ensuring seamless service delivery.
- Ensure Team Leader and Associates are consistently supported, coached, and equipped to deliver exceptional guest and member experiences.
- Manage departmental performance, setting clear goals and targets in line with business objectives.
- Take responsibility for the pool plant operations, ensuring the safe and efficient running of all associated systems and compliance with regulations.
- Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation across all areas of the leisure club, ensuring cleaning tasks are delivered effectively and consistently.
- Support the Club Manager in developing and implementing standard operating procedures and policies.
- Manage stock control, ordering, and supplier relationships in line with budgetary requirements.
- Ensure effective communication across shifts, including structured briefings and handovers.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Take lead responsibility for health, safety, and legal compliance across the leisure club.
- Ensure all risk assessments, safety audits, and operational checklists are completed to standard and within deadlines.
- Ensure pool responder training and coverage are always in place, and act as an escalation point during emergencies.
- Be the primary point of escalation for incidents, guest complaints, and emergencies, ensuring swift resolution and accurate reporting.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, company standards, and industry best practice.
- Participate fully in the hotel’s AP rota, ensuring safety obligations are met at all times.

Guest & Member Experience
- Champion a member- and guest-focused culture, ensuring feedback is acted upon and service consistently exceeds expectations.
- Support membership sales activity, tours, and retention initiatives, supporting the delivery of commercial targets.
- Monitor service delivery across all leisure touchpoints and take proactive steps to address gaps or opportunities for improvement.
- Lead by example in guest interaction, demonstrating courtesy, professionalism, and product knowledge.
Commercial & Business Support
- Support the Club Manager in delivering departmental budgets and revenue targets.
- Analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) and use insight to improve operational and financial performance.
- Contribute to promotional campaigns, membership drives, and community engagement activities.
- Provide input on strategic planning and development of the leisure facilities.
Working Pattern
- Work flexibly on a scheduled shift rota to provide leadership presence during peak operating times, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Provide management cover during Club Manager’s absence (holidays, rest days, or as business needs dictate).
- Be adaptable to cover staffing shortfalls and business priorities to ensure operational continuity.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
