Senior Licensing Enforcement Officer

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council

Fixed Term Contract (12 Months)

Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week

It’s a great time to join our busy, customer-focused, and proactive Licensing Team. We are currently looking for two Senior Licensing Enforcement Officers to join us on 12 month fixed term contracts to provide maternity cover. Internal secondments will also be considered for this opportunity.

Keeping people safe is at the heart of everything we do, and you will be given the unique opportunity to work across our socially and economically diverse borough, helping us to develop and deliver a high-quality service across the full range of licensing regimes, including taxis, Licensing Act 2003, Gambling Act 2005, Animal licensing and street trading.

As a Senior Licensing Enforcement Officer, you will play an active role in horizon scanning and preparing for the implementation of emerging legislation and new processes and procedures. You will also be involved in our digital transformation journey, contributing to the implementation and ongoing development of a new ICT system. This will support increased customer self-service and improved outcomes for residents and businesses. The role also offers opportunities for collaboration with colleagues across the Council as well as with external partners.

To be successful in this varied and rewarding position, you will bring:

  • A relevant licensing or regulatory qualification, or significant experience and knowledge enabling you to fulfil the responsibilities of the role.
  • Highly effective communication and investigative skills.
  • Experience in providing advice and guidance on regulatory and/or enforcement matters.
  • Proven knowledge of legal processes and effective evidence gathering.
  • The ability to balance competing demands, prioritise tasks, and work effectively to deadlines.
  • A willingness to learn and develop, through formal and on-the-job training, as well as self-guided research.
  • A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle, to enable you to move around sites in the Borough where much of the team’s work is delivered.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
