A little more about your role...

As a Senior Lighting Designer, you'll play a key role in delivering innovative and sustainable lighting solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects. Working closely with colleagues, clients and stakeholders, you'll help shape projects from early concept through to construction, ensuring high-quality outcomes that enhance the built environment.

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate with lighting specialists, multidisciplinary design teams, clients and stakeholders to deliver outstanding project outcomes.
  • Produce detailed design layouts, engineering detailed drawings and support documentation in accordance with WSP’s Quality Assurance and client requirements.
  • Prepare feasibility reports and technical notes, optioneering reports and specifications.
  • Engage with luminaire, column, controls and electrical manufacturers.
  • Co-ordinate with contractors including site support, responding to RFI’s and TQ’s.
  • Complete non-intrusive site visits to support the development of lighting assessments and site clearance drawings.
  • Support with the development of project proposals and progress against agreed programme milestones and budget constraints.
  • Liaise with Local Authority and Strategic Road Network clients building strong working relationships.
  • Analyse/evaluate Client briefs and offer expert guidance and tailored support.
  • Guide junior team members and Early Career Professionals on their career journeys.
  • Represent WSP within the lighting industry, fostering industry relationships and driving business development.

What we are looking for you to demonstrate…

We're keen to hear from people who are passionate about lighting design and enjoy finding innovative solutions to complex challenges as well as

  • Experience using Lighting Reality and/or DIALux, together with AutoCAD.
  • A strong understanding of external lighting standards, legislation, guidance and best practice.
  • Good knowledge of electrical design principles and lighting maintenance considerations.
  • Experience delivering lighting design projects from concept through to construction.
  • Understanding of central management systems.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • A desire to support, coach and develop others.
  • Experience working with Local Authority and/or Strategic Road Network clients.
  • Knowledge of external lighting products and technologies.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution, with EngTech status achieved or a clear ambition to progress towards IEng accreditation.
