We are partnering with one of the world’s most prestigious, technology-driven investment firms to hire a Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer for its London Platform Engineering team.
This is a rare opportunity to join a firm where technology is fundamental to the investment business, rather than simply a supporting function. The organisation has combined quantitative research, sophisticated engineering, and investment management for more than three decades, with a substantial global technology organisation building and operating the platforms underpinning its research and investment activities.
They are looking for an accomplished Linux engineer who enjoys operating at the intersection of systems engineering, software development, networking and security.
This is emphatically not a conventional Linux Systems Administrator position.
You will join a global, cross-platform engineering team responsible for the firm's core technology infrastructure, working across Linux operating systems, networks, security, datacentres, cloud infrastructure and core network services. The environment is large-scale, technically sophisticated and business-critical, requiring engineers who can understand complex systems end-to-end rather than operating within a narrow technology silo.
Role
You will take hands-on responsibility for designing, engineering and improving infrastructure that directly supports the firm's investment and technology platforms.
- Designing, engineering and maintaining large-scale Linux infrastructure across datacentres, cloud environments and global offices.
- Developing Python-based tooling and automation to remove manual processes and improve the scalability, reliability and efficiency of the platform.
- Working deeply with Linux at the systems level, including configuration, performance, diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Troubleshooting complex problems across both the host and network layers, using diagnostic and tracing tools to understand what is actually happening within the underlying systems.
- Contributing to the architecture, implementation and integration of new infrastructure platforms and services.
- Continuously improving the firm's security framework and infrastructure security posture.
- Engineering and supporting core services including DNS, DHCP and Kerberos.
- Improving automated build, software deployment and CI/CD infrastructure.
- Working across networking, databases, large-scale storage and Windows/Linux interoperability.
- Collaborating with exceptional engineers globally on technically challenging problems where reliability, performance and security genuinely matter.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We're Looking For
We are interested in experienced infrastructure engineers who combine deep Linux expertise with genuine software engineering and problem-solving ability. We expect that you will have experience from another elite hedge fund, HFT, Prop traders or a tier-one bank with a reputation for Technology excellence. Candidates from tier-one technology firms (FAANG etc.) and sophisticated high-growth technology startups are also encouraged to apply.
You are likely to bring:
- 10+ years' experience within sophisticated systems, infrastructure, platform or production engineering environments.
- Deep knowledge of Linux operating systems, including configuration, internals and troubleshooting.
- Strong Python development skills – this is an engineering role where automation and code are important, rather than scripting being an occasional add-on.
- Excellent troubleshooting ability across complex distributed environments.
- Strong understanding of networking and network protocols, including host- and network-level diagnostics.
- Experience with modern configuration management, automated builds, deployment and CI/CD.
- A good understanding of infrastructure and information security principles.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering teams and with different areas of the business.
- You will have a track record of exceptional achievement at school and university, with a deep understanding of computer science.
- You are curious by nature and able to demonstrate your passion for technology, problem solving, and building foundations of high-performance critical infrastructure.

Additional experience with Rust, Go, C, Java or C#, DNS/DHCP/Kerberos, databases, large-scale storage or Windows/Linux integration would be particularly valuable.
Why This Opportunity?
The attraction is as much about the engineering environment as the individual role. This is a firm with hundreds of software developers and engineers where technology has been central to the organisation since its foundation. Engineers work on infrastructure supporting sophisticated systematic research and investment strategies, with the resources to solve difficult problems properly rather than continually working around legacy constraints.
The culture places a premium on intellectual curiosity, rigorous problem-solving and engineering quality, while still allowing senior engineers to remain deeply hands-on.
For an experienced Linux engineer who wants to move beyond conventional infrastructure operations and work alongside some of the strongest technologists in the investment industry, this is an exceptional opportunity.
