Litigation Paralegal

Location: North Finchley, London

Salary: Up to £32,000 + Performance Bonus (OTE up to £45,000)

About the Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join our expanding litigation team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing law firm specialising in litigation. The successful candidate will assist with a varied caseload, including Housing Disrepair matters, working closely with fee earners and clients from initial instruction through to settlement or conclusion.

You will have the opportunity to take responsibility for your own caseload, develop your litigation expertise, and progress your career within a supportive and fast-paced legal environment. The role also offers an attractive performance-based bonus scheme, with OTE of up to £45,000.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist fee earners with the management of civil litigation matters from inception through to conclusion.
  • Manage your own caseload and ensure matters progress efficiently and within required deadlines.
  • Draft pleadings, witness statements, applications, letters of claim, and legal correspondence.
  • Prepare and issue court proceedings where appropriate.
  • Prepare court bundles, disclosure documents, schedules of damages, and other litigation documentation.
  • Work in accordance with the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) and relevant pre-action protocols.
  • Liaise with clients, solicitors, counsel, barristers, experts, courts, and other relevant parties.
  • Assist with negotiations and settlement of claims.
  • Monitor court directions, limitation dates, deadlines, and key case milestones.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic case files and case management records.
  • Assist with assessing quantum, costs, litigation risks, and prospects of success.
  • Assist fee earners with case preparation and progression.
  • Provide clear and professional communication to clients throughout the litigation process.
  • Deliver excellent client care while managing expectations and progressing matters efficiently.
  • Meet agreed performance, quality, financial, and file progression targets.

Requirements

  • 2–3 years' experience working within a litigation environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) and civil litigation procedures.
  • Experience drafting pleadings, witness statements, applications, court documents, and legal correspondence.
  • Previous experience issuing proceedings and filing documents with the courts.
  • Good understanding of litigation costs, damages, risks, and case management.
  • Experience managing a caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Commercially aware with a pragmatic and solutions-focused approach.
  • Confident dealing with clients, opponents, courts, experts, and other professionals.
  • A proactive, hardworking, and professional approach with a strong commitment to client service.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within a busy litigation department.
  • Experience managing a personal caseload.
  • Experience dealing with contested matters and court proceedings.
  • Good understanding of litigation costs and funding arrangements.
  • Experience working to legal targets, KPIs, and financial performance objectives.
  • Experience using legal case management systems.
