Role Overview
The postholder is a GPwER providing assessment and management of patients with ear, nose and throat conditions in a community setting, working within a defined scope of practice under clinical supervision.
Clinical
- Assess, diagnose and manage patients presenting with ENT conditions strictly within the defined scope of practice and clinical competence.
- Maintain a low threshold for seeking advice; escalate complex, uncertain, red-flag or out-of-scope presentations promptly to the supervising clinician.
- Make safe decisions on investigation, treatment, onward referral and discharge within scope.
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records and communicate clearly with referring clinicians and patients.
Supervision and Professional Development
- Work within the agreed supervision framework, presenting cases for review as required.
- Actively build ENT competence and work towards full, senior GPwER accreditation, maintaining a learning portfolio.
- Participate in relevant training, and respond constructively to supervision and feedback.

Quality Improvement and Governance
- Participate in clinical governance activity: audit, significant event analysis, complaints response and the duty of candour.
- Contribute to service evaluation and quality improvement as part of the team.
- Work strictly within the agreed scope of practice and escalate any concerns about safety or capacity.
